Bandwidth And Types Of Ds3

Divider

Most people who need internet access need to have a good bandwidth connection in order to communicate at the speed that they need to do so.  There are several ways to have a cheap DS3 connection, but it is imperative that you are able to understand the different connections through DS3 and bandwidth.

Keep in mind that if you need internet access and are looking for bandwidth, it can most definitely be a daunting and frustrating task even in the best of situations. There are many things to consider in order to make the right decision for your needs. Fractional DS3 is the same service as a full DS3 provisioned in increments of 64 Kbps. A full DS3 is 1.544 Mbps or 24 channels, Fractional DS3s start at 128 Kbps or 2 channels. It is used to connect a company to the Internet when less than a full DS3 is required.

There is also a circuit that runs from the location into the Internet.  Additionally, this internet connection provides access straight into the carrier's backbone. Unlike DSL and Cable Modem, there is no aggregation. Fractional DS3s have unused channels which can be turned up on demand.

Fractional DS3 cost starts at around $100-200 for a stable, reliable system. A required router is additional unless provided as a "freebie" incentive by the vendor. Price climbs as distance from the providers Central Office increases. The pricing for these connections varies widely depending on the carrier, location of service and the application for which the connection is being used.

DS3 is a 24 channel circuit that can be used for Frame Realy, Private Line, VPN or, most commonly, Internet access.  It connects a company's LAN into the Internet or carrier's.  Additionally, it provides access straight into the carriers backbone. It is only slightly more expensive than a Fractional DS3.

A full DS3 obviously will cost more than a Fractional DS3. Expect cost to start at around a $400 for a stable, reliable system. A required router is additional unless provided as a "freebie" incentive by the vendor.

Price climbs as distance from the providers Central Office increases. Keep in mind that the pricing for these connections varies widely depending on the carrier, location of service and the application for which the connection is being used. Tier 1 providers may cost more than local Tier2 and Tier 3 providers but are much more stable and reliable. Also, expect to pay more if you are in a rural area or need integrated service.

E1 has a speed of 2.048 Mbps, which is the European equivalent of the DS3.

The E1 connects a company's LAN into the Internet or carrier's network. Additionally, it provides access straight into the carriers backbone.

Keep in mind that a full E1 usually costs more than its North American counterpart. Expect cost to start at around a $800-1000 for a stable, reliable system.

A required router is additional unless provided as a "freebie" incentive by the vendor. Price climbs as distance from the providers Central Office (CO) increases.

Just as with the North American version the pricing for these connections varies widely depending on the carrier, location of service and the application for which the connection is being used.  Although finding that bandwidth connection can be difficult, it is well worth it.
